Over the Sacramento Mountains

We see snow and pine trees as we reach the top; we're  at around 6000 feet, Sacramento Mountains.

We stop at a ski resort.  The owner talks to us.  He says there wasn't enough snow this year to open for business.  He invited us to sit on the back deck of the ski lodge and help ourselves to soda.

Still has an alpine feel on the deck despite little snow.

Coming down the Sacremento Mountains.  The barely visible white ribbon and distant mountain range is White Sands National Monument, appearing like a sea to us, and the San Andres Mountains.

Back to the desert plateau, the Jarilla Mountains to our south.

Our beautiful country.

White Sands National Monument.  A sea of gypsum with many animals and insects adapted to this unusual white environment.
The San Andres Mountains and Las Cruces ahead.

Looking down on Las Cruces at dusk from our campsite
